A few years ago, a Brazilian billionaire declared that he was going to bury his Bentley, a beautiful and extremely expensive car, so that he would be able to drive it in the afterlife. Naturally, this enraged many people. Social media exploded with individuals labeling the man as "crazy", "wasteful", and "selfish". Many people assumed that he was burying the car for tax-related purposes and others begged him to donate the car to charity if he no longer planned on using it. Later, the man released the following statement:

"People have condemned me for trying to bury a million dollar Bentley. The fact is, most people bury something a lot more valuable than my car. People bury hearts, livers, lungs, eyes, and kidneys. This is absurd. There are so many people out there waiting for a transplant and you will bury healthy organs that can save so many lives. This is the biggest waste in the world. My Bentley is worthless in comparison to life giving organs. There is no wealth more valuable than an organ, because there is nothing more valuable than life."

Unfortunately, I don't have a million dollar car so I can't use the strategy of pretending to bury it in order to generate awareness about organ donation. However, I do have some knowledge to share. Did you know that it only takes 2 minutes to register to become an organ donor? Did you know that 1 donor (YOU) can potentially save 8 lives and enhance 75 more? Did you know that there are currently 1,500 people in Ontario who are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant? Did you know that, sadly, less than 30% of Ontarians are registered as donors? Well, now you do.

I started this campaign to encourage my own family and friends to become organ donors. However, that isn't where it ends - it wouldn't be good enough. Please take it one step further and share this campaign with your own family and friends to encourage them to register as organ donors as well.
