Darchei Noam says: Do a mitzvah. Sign up to be an organ donor.
Every three days someone dies in Ontario because the life-saving organ transplant they need is not available, yet just over 30% of Ontarians have registered their consent to be a donor. It's really surprising, and it's not good enough. Especially for the 1,500 people in our province waiting for organ transplants.
We are asking every member of our organization to register their consent at beadonor.ca, and to ask their friends and family to register as well. It takes only two minutes to register, but could one day save up to 8 lives.
“There is an unfortunate misconception that Jews are not supposed to donate organs,” explains our Rabbi, Tina Grimberg. “But I stand on the shoulders of many great and venerable rabbis when I argue that there is no contradiction between Jewish law and organ donation. It’s a mitzvah.
“This is something we owe to ourselves, to our communities and to humanity,” she said.
Do a mitzvah. Be an organ donor. Your community encourages it.
