Donna Mitchell: Gift Of 8 Campaign
Though 90% of Ontarians believe that organ and tissue donation is a good thing, only about 35% of us are registered as donors. In Toronto, that number is only 25%.
More than 1,200 people in the province are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and every three days someone will die waiting for an organ.
Each donor can give up to eight organs – the “Gift of 8” – and enrich as many as 75 lives through the donation of tissue such as cornea, bone and skin.
I created this page to encourage family and friends to register their consent to become donors. Some people do not realize that signed donor cards are no longer valid. All donor registrations are now done through this site or in person at any Service Ontario location.
Please take two minutes and register – you can do it right now, from the link on this page. All you need is your Ontario health card number. You can also easily check to ensure you are registered.
Registering as a donor gives each of us the opportunity to leave a life-saving legacy.
