Jon Galsworthy was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) in 2017, a progressive disease that damages the bile ducts in the liver. In June of 2023, the disease progressed, leaving Jon hospitalized. The disease continued to progress, resulting in Jon landing on the transplant list in February of 2024. Luckily, a match was found quickly, and the transplant occurred in May of 2024, giving Jon a new lease on life!
An unexpected match
Being the only blood match in their immediate family, Jon’s daughter, Hayley Galsworthy, was eager to get tested as a potential match. Most doctors, however, told the family that the match was unlikely due to the size difference, Hayley being 11 inches shorter and 80 pounds lighter than her father. Despite knowing this, Hayley insisted on getting tested regardless and ended up being a match! The family wants to encourage anyone to be an organ donor, regardless of any limiting factors. With methods and knowledge surrounding organ transplantation improving every day, you never know if you may be a match! Organ donation has changed the lives of the Galsworthy family forever, and they strongly encourage anyone considering organ donation, forever grateful for the impact it has had on their lives.
