In 2015 someone very dear to me found out he required a liver transplant to survive and that his best chance for survival would be to find a living donor. Naturally I volunteered, even with odds against me not being immediate family and after all the necessary testing, perfect match! A few months later I was able to donate 75% of my liver to him and now he is recovering well at home. Added bonus for those of you who didn't know is that my liver started regenerating right away. YES your liver grows back to 100%. It was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made! During my stay at the hospital I was able to meet with different patients who were waiting for transplants, I was able to hear their stories and what they were going through. Some had been waiting for sometime for a donor, others were too sick to receive their original donors organs and had to be put on a list and wait yet again. Touched my heart and made me realize how important organ donation is and how many lives we could save!
