Mary Ellen: Gift of 8 Campaign
I work for the Trillium Gift of Life Network, so I get to see the miracle of organ and tissue donation every day. Only those who have been on "the list", or who have had friends or family endure that kind of wait, know the agony of it - waiting to see if the family of a perfect stranger will step forward to save your life, and wondering if it will happen in time.
While everyone can appreciate the joy of someone who has been given a second chance at life, those close to a recipient - and recipients themselves - think always of the donor, and the family of that donor who made a selfless, generous choice during a time of grief.
If you support organ and tissue donation, please register. You'll save your family the anxiety of wondering what you would have wanted - they will know. That old donor card in your wallet might not be available when it's needed, so retire it and register. Honestly, it takes two minutes - then you can move on with your life knowing you've done a great thing.
