I recently became involved in organ and tissue donation through my work. The stories I have heard are both inspiring and heart breaking. Most of all they have given me perspective and an appreciation that I and those close to me continue to live healthy lives. I have learned - as so many other Ontarians have - that this can all change in an instant. Today there are nearly 1,500 Ontarians waiting for an organ transplant, every three days, one of them will die. However, some of those waiting will receive the call that in an act of selflessness they will receive a second chance at life through organ donation. One organ donor can save eight lives and through tissue donation enhance another 75.
