There is a great need for organ donors in Ontario. Only 33 per cent of Ontarians are signed up to be organ donors, which is 3.9 million out of an eligible 12.9 million. At the same time, more than 1,500 Ontarians are waiting for an organ transplant as of December 31, 2017. We know organ donation saves lives and more than 15,000 Ontarians have received a life-saving transplant since 2003. Unity Health Toronto can help make a difference to the long waiting list for organ donors not only through the compassionate care we provide, but also by engaging our staff, students, researchers and volunteers to learn more about organ donation. Our goal is to have 1,800 donors register or check their status as donors under our joint organ registration drive by the end of December 2019. This will mean 1,000 new registration checks and updates this year. Register or check your registration status using your health card now to help us meet our goal.
