There is a great need for organ donors in Ontario. Only 32 per cent of Ontarians are signed up to be organ donors, which is 3.9 million out of an eligible 12.9 million. At the same time, more than 1,500 Ontarians are waiting for an organ transplant as of December 31, 2017. We know organ donation saves lives and more than 15,000 Ontarians have received a life-saving transplant since 2003. Our new network of Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph’s Health Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital can help make a difference to the long waiting list for organ donors not only through the compassionate care we provide, but also by engaging our staff, students, researchers and volunteers to learn more about organ donation. Our new network is aiming to have 1,000 donors register or check their status as donors under our joint organ registration drive by the end of April 2018. Register or check your registration status using your health card now to help us meet our goal.
