After 5 years of fighting for his life, Darryl never dreamed that needing a kidney transplant would be announced to him so soon, a few months before his 40th Birthday. Darryl has battled type 1 diabetes since the age of 6. Besides struggling with balancing his sugars and 5 injections daily he lived an active and happy life. Married his high school sweetheart, completed 2 university degrees, bought a house, played on many sports teams and enjoyed travelling. Life changed in 2010 when Darryl suffered cardiac arrest during routine heart testing. Since then he has had: 3 heart surgeries – including a quadruple bypass open heart surgery, 180 therapy hours in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, 2 eye surgeries and implementation of an Internal Automated Defibrillator surgery.

and the fight for his life continues...

Darryl is on life sustaining Dialysis treatments for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and needs a Kidney Transplant. Darryl spends 3 days a week in the hospital for 4 hour treatments. With treatment set up, appointments, blood work and line removal his dialysis is about 20 hours of his week. Not to mention battling highs and lows of sugars and cardiac disease. Darryl sees 7 specialists and spends countless hours in appointments but has never lost his optimistic attitude and inspiration to live.
