Suzanne MacLean: Gift Of 8 Campaign
Every year over 250 people die while waiting for an organ transplant. There are 4500 people in Canada who need a transplant but only half of them will get that lifesaving organ. The reason: not enough Canadians donate their organs when they die even though they don’t need them anymore and they could save 8 people. About a third of organs that could be donated are lost because potential donors didn’t make their wishes known. Together we can eradicate wait lists and save the lives of hundreds of Canadians. 80% of Canadians say they would be an organ donor but only 20% have registered. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could save 8 lives when you die? Be a hero. Become an organ donor.
Make a difference. Register to be an organ donor. My life depends on it.
My name is Suzanne MacLean and I am one of those Canadians who needs an organ transplant. I was diagnosed with kidney disease in 1992 and was on dialysis for 3 years before my mother donated her kidney. What an amazing gift ! I knew I had this precious gift and lived my life to the fullest. I accomplished so many dreams with my new kidney. The best dream of all was becoming a mother. After 16 years, I unfortunately loss the kidney transplant when my daughter Olivia was only 1 year old. I was overwhelmed. Here I was with a young child and the devastating reality of dialysis. I have been on home nocturnal hemodialysis now for 9 years. I hope to receive another kidney some day. The struggles and challenges of dialysis are endless but remain hopeful that a kidney transplant will come for me and my daughter. Please become an organ donor. Register today and most importantly make sure you tell your family your wishes.
