In Ontario today, over 1,500 people are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, one of whom will die every three days. While 26% of Ontario residents have already registered as organ and tissue donors, that number drops significantly to just 17% in the Greater Toronto Area. We at Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic Services deal with life and death on a daily basis, and we know first hand the importance of this critical healthcare issue. We believe that this world class city, home to some of the best transplant hospitals in the world, is capable of doing so much better. In Ontario, April is “BeADonor Month”. This April we at Toronto’s Emergency Services want to encourage all of our members, as well as the general public, to take a moment to think about organ and tissue donation, to discuss this important issue with your loved ones, and if you’re inspired to do so, to take 2 minutes out of your day to register as a donor.
