Celebrating Life Beyond the Gift: Spotlight on the Canadian Transplant Association
The Canadian Transplant Association (CTA) is a national, volunteer-driven organization that connects and supports members of the Canadian transplant community. This includes transplant recipients and their families, candidates on transplant wait lists, donor families, living donors, and health care professionals.
The CTA fosters community through peer support, advocacy and education initiatives, social events, and active living. By promoting healthy lifestyles and celebrating the resilience of transplant recipients, CTA shows that life after transplant can be vibrant and full of possibility. Members participate in events—from marathons and dragon boat races to pickleball and lawn bowling—building connection and raising awareness along the way.
One of CTA’s signature events is the CTA Transplant Games, a multi-day celebration of athleticism, community, and gratitude. Participants—many of whom are transplant recipients—compete in a variety of sports, proving once again that life after transplant can be active and inspiring. The next event will take place in Sherbrooke, QC from July 5–10, 2026.
Meet the Ontario Chapter
Led by Kathleen Zavarise, a liver and kidney transplant recipient, the Ontario Chapter is driven by passion and purpose. Kathleen received her life-saving transplant in March 2023 and now dedicates her time to advocacy and community building and cherishing time with her family. Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact of donation and the strength of the transplant community.
To see upcoming activities and ways to get involved, check out the Ontario Chapter Facebook page or connect with Kathleen directly at kzavarise@txworks.ca.
