Without my living kidney donor, I would be struggling through each day. driving an hour back and forth to dialysis 3 times a week, sick all the time and not living life to the fullest. I would be waiting up to about 8 years for a donor kidney. Since receiving my kidney transplant, and 8 months later my pancreas transplant, I can say that I feel well and like myself again, something that I was beginning to think was never going to happen. I am insulin free! I have been able to do so many things in the past 5 years that are only possible because of my donors, and the most important and special being the birth of my daughter in December. She is happy and healthy and I am so blessed!
Would you accept a donated organ if you or a loved one needed one?
It only takes a minute to register or check and see if you are registered. Signing the card that comes with your drivers license is no longer enough. Don't assume you are too old, too sick, etc. to donate, leave that to the Drs to decide. Most Canadians say they believe in organ donation and that they agree with it, but many of those people have not registered their wishes online yet. There is a lot of information out there in respect to religious beliefs and what happens when your organs are donated. Google!!
Rest assured you will be helping to save a life or as many as 8 lives, giving a family and friends their loved one back. You will be given the utmost respect and your selflessness will be never forgotten! Please don't take your organs with you when are no longer on this earth.
